报告摘要:The use of information technologies (IT) in a supply chain has been recognized essential for both organizational exploration and exploitation activities. Despite the consensus on the need for an organization to develop a balance between exploration and exploitation, there is little clarity within the extant literature on how to achieve such balance. In this current study, we contrast the two primary views on the mechanisms designed to help organizations to realize this balance: 1)ambidexterity (i.e., the synchronous pursuit of both exploration and exploitation); 2) and punctuated equilibrium (i.e., the temporal or cycling periods of exploration and exploitation). Drawing upon organizational theories, we submit a punctuated equilibrium approach is most viable when considering the use of IT to expand capacity to explore and exploit in a supply chain network. We test this idea in the context of supplier IT use for generating buyer benefits and propose a staged value creation model.
