Professor Nachiappan (Nachi) Subramanian is a leading expert in supply chain management, sustainability, and digital transformation. He is a Professor at the University of Sussex Business School, UK, where he leads interdisciplinary research on the circular economy, innovation, and emerging technologies. With over 27 years of professional experience—including 25 years in academia and two years in the consulting sector—Professor Nachi has built an extensive career spanning the UK, China, India, and Australia. His academic journey includes a post-doctoral research stint at the University of Nottingham, UK, supported by the prestigious BOYSCAST fellowship, and recognition through the Australian Endeavour Research Fellowship Award. He has also secured career and young scientist fellowship awards from Indian governmental bodies.
Professor Nachi has published over 120 refereed research papers in premier operations and supply chain management journals, and has contributed to numerous books, chapters, and case studies. His Harvard case "Supply Chain Optimization at Madurai Aavin Milk Dairy" is one of the top-selling cases in India. His insights on contemporary topics have been featured in China Daily and the LSE Business Review. As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK, he has taught extensively across multiple countries and played key roles in executive education programs, including the Victoria & Albert Museum Master Class and the China High-Speed Rail international talent development initiative. His research focuses on technology-driven interventions in supply chains, sustainable practices encompassing environmental and social aspects, risk management, and performance metrics. Throughout his career, he has secured and completed eight research grants and has guided twelve PhD students to completion. He also serves on editorial boards and advisory panels, reflecting his commitment to advancing impactful, practice-oriented research in the field.
